Comment posted Legalize Marijuana? by Ersa M.

Y is it when something is done by a lot of people automatically makes it legal and correct? Marijuana is illegal and should remain like that.

  • In California as a qualified patient you are entitled to legally grow, consume and transport marijuana as your medicine. Marijuana has been reported to be an effective and preferred treatment for many California patients. Check out this website to see if you pre-qualify www.accsocal.com.
  • the problem with pot goes all the way back to the old days when cotton factories started opening up and everyone found out that hemp could be used to do everything cotton does and more, for a lot less money. The rich who were running the cotton industry were all also running the country and outlawed hemp and anything that became of it. To this day it is still illegal and prob never will change because of selfish bussiness men who run the country.
  • Marijuana was only made illegal in the first place as a legal way to harass Mexican immigrants living in Texas. Then, it was used against Black Jazz musicians and fans. This is due to the fact that most white Americans didn’t really know what it was at the time (early 1900’s). Then, in 1937, it was made illegal nationwide not long after other once easily obtainable drugs such as heroin and cocaine were found to have hazardous health effects. They made pot illegal before doing any hardcore research into it’s safety and all these years later, not a single study proves any health effects worse than those of alcohol or tobacco. I totally agree with you on this one. It just doesn’t make any sense. I’m going to spark up a fatty, myself, after work, how bout you???
  • oh man,

first off that dude up there that said MJ kills brain cells is obviously on crack because it is scientifically proven to NOT kill brain cells. the worst negative affect that it can give you is smoke irritation…

i agree with the 60 year old dude, and the dude with all the statistics. but the number one statistic and the most obvios truth is that PROHIBITION DOES NOT WORK!! as proven in the 20’s

i do not smoke MJ, but i am a strong supporter of it…and like it or not its gonna happen…take a look dozens of states are decriminalizing… and if it was legalized it wouldnt be a complete free for all im pretty sure rules and laws will be in place limiting quantity, distribution, age, legal limit, and so on.

  • My friend told me about this billboard in Washington D.C. that had a counter that went up every 2-3 seconds it said something to this affect, The number of vehicle accident deaths this year caused by drivers under the influence…of Marijuana. That was just from driving! there are not near as many studies done on lung cancer and driving statistics on marijuana because it’s illegal, but the tar content is far greater than that of cigarettes and it’s just as dangerous to drive. Do you not think that cigarettes would be illegal, if they had been from the start? especially with all the cancer problems? Of course they would but instead of another Prohibition problem the just tax the hell out of them! Why start the same problem with pot?

  • What´s the other side to the legalize marijuana argument?
Even though it’s not an argument, the “for the children” mindset has played a huge role in keeping marijuana illegal.

Politicians say key phrases such as “what about the children” and “we must protect our children” – “therefore ______ should be illegal”. This is propaganda and is simply used to appeal to emotions. Because everybody loves children and wants to protect them.

This is ok. But children have NOTHING to do with the issue at hand.

So yeah… what about the children?????? What about em?

Is it safer for a child to go get drugs from a store or from a criminal organization? Plus, a store won’t sell drugs to kids. Now, a dealer will sell drugs to anyone that has money whether it’s a child or not.

SO dont give me that shit that it’s safer for kids when marijuana is illegal. That’s pure uneducated and ignorant bullshit.

  • What´s the other side to the legalize marijuana argument?
What other side? What can you possibly say that supports prohibition? It is a cancer eating away society. I see a lot of cannabis myths on here no real information. Marijuana is not a carcinogen, it actually has been proven to cure cancer (see sources). Check this link to the DEA’s top 10 reasons against legalization: http://loopylettuce.wordpress.com/2009/11/30/deas-top-10-reasons-against-legalization/
  • What´s the other side to the legalize marijuana argument?
its harmful, its habit forming (mentally not physically), can be a gateway drug, impares your ability to drive, and function.

I think there s a multitude of them, havoc in the traffic is one, and the difficulty of testing as in alcohol.
New problems are coming to light, some are bizarre like ‘man boobs’ and the staggering tar levels in some strains of cannabis resins.
It certainly gets a lot of people onto cigarettes.
It’s a carcinogen that’s for sure, and more immediate problems occur…I’ve twice seen the ambulance called by frightened people because someone smoking it has became panicky.
I know for a damn fact it’s a gateway drug to worse things, admittedly the current involvement of criminals will have a lot to do with that.
I come so awfully close to ruin as a youngster, thankfully I drew a line that stuck.
Friends went down that path though. No, I think the law (in Britain) is lenient enough.
The death penalty in places like China and Malaya is too severe though….others won’t think so.
BEWARE of pro-legalization websites. Never forget ANYBODY can publish on the internet.
  • Marijuana Chemistry: Genetics, Processing, Potency
This book uses data collected from the pre-Reagan ban on marijuana studies to make good informed conclusions about cannabis. It dips into most everything but I wanted more genetic information.
