Whats a realistic outline to what would happen if marijuana was legalize in the US right now?
legalize marijuana January 11th, 2010What would also be the impacts? Farmers would switch there crops over? What would happen to street gangs that sell it? The American economy would get a very large boost if it were taxed like cigarettes.
Basically what im saying, is it a good idea to legalize marijuana? Would the pros out weigh the cons?

Marijuana is not hard to find, is not hard to grow, and if it became legal, it would not be worth much money. The American economy wouldn’t make a penny, because people would grow it and smoke it their selves since its such an easy plant to grow. The only people it would hurt financial, is the drug dealers that are straight up marijuana dealers. Most drug dealers make their money off of hard drugs (cocaine, heroin etc). The amount of DWI’s would increase, the amount of people who graduate school would decrease, it would be a bad situation all around.

If marijuana was legal, nobody would be buying cigarettes/cigars anymore because they’d be into the more ‘daring,’ new thing. Cigarette sales would go down and maybe crash. There would probably be less street gangs, since some of them are formed in search for drugs. But worst of all, later on, America might decide that some other drugs should be legal since marijuana got the OK, leading to chaos. The cons would outweigh the pros.
Let’s just say it’s best to keep it illegal.

Marijuana might be legalized as a controlled medicine. The chemical substance, THC, has a potency that needs to be measured. Marijuana 35 years ago was not as potent as plants today. When Nixon outlawed it, he had it put on a list of drugs with no medicinal value. Today, that is being challenged, but it’s been very difficult.
The problem is not being able to determine how potent the chemical is on any given consumption. If regulated as a medicine, it can be properly measured and prescribed accordingly to meet a need.
Left unregulated, people risk health damage from long term use. Penicillin became a problem when it was prescribed way too often. It was found later that the body adapts to the dosage and it takes higher dosages or something more potent to get the results needed. A kind of addiction by the body (Heroine addicts need more and more to get the high they seek and become sick when they’ve made their body dependent on it).
I believe that like other regulated medications, marijuana has medicinal qualities, but it needs to be prescribed by a doctor who can monitor the effects on the body.
The perception needs to change and treat it as a viable medicine. However, we have people bent on rebellious self destruction no matter what. Those people will steal a patients’ medicine just to get high.
