Legalize Marijuana?
legalize marijuana December 9th, 2009Let me start out with some facts:
Nearly 400,000 Americans die a year from Cigarettes.
Around 15,000 people die a year due to alcohol.
Alcohol and Cigarettes are both legal.
There has not been one person recorded of dying from marijuana overdose.
It is quite obvious that our government is making a big mistake by not legalizing marijuana. If marijuana kills less that Cigarettes and Alcohol, then why shouldn’t it be legal? Why shouldn’t we make cigarettes illegal if it kills so many people? Why is alcohol legal if it kills so many a year? Not only from liver poisoning, but drunk driving incidents which kill innocent people.
My view is that we make cigarettes illegal because they kill so many people. Make more strict laws about alcohol, including a license to purchase or sell alcohol. Legalize marijuana, but make strict laws such as only being used in a private place. Also you must have a license to buy or sell it. Do you agree? Disagree? Let me know.

You’ll get no argument from me.

Somehow, legalization of marijuana will ALWAYS be the stronger argument against the continuing illegalization.
But still, let’s not do it, ok? The last thing we want is people becoming physically stupid from a rotting brain.

marijuana is illegal? could’ve fooled me, i have no trouble getting it and i know more people who use it than don’t. society has moved forward, our government and laws are lagging behind as usual.

Y is it when something is done by a lot of people automatically makes it legal and correct? Marijuana is illegal and should remain like that.

Legalize it!!! And I don’t even smoke.
December 9th, 2009 at 6:47 pm
tend to agree with you but
my general answer,
I do not think that it will ever be legal in the USA,if a
anything the politics are moving in the oposite direction and a fascist attitude against minority groups is growing
ATITUDES IN OTHER COUNTRIES
mild in Canada.used to be legal in Alaska.in Autralia you can have a few plants in the garden,In South Africa an ounce in your pocket is accepted .In Holland it is sold openly in koffie Bars and the police will direct tourist to safe places to buy.}in England a few years ago it was decrimenalised.
In Marroco it is the culture and all the old men smoke it in the caffees..as in many Arab countries
In Asia in some countries it is a very old part of their culture.
etc. etc.
MEDICINAL
in many countries marijuana is used in rubbung alcohol mostly by old people to relieve body pains especially the limbs.
it is also used for Asthma and nervous disorders
AMERICA
the USA the attitude is dogmatic for other reasons than the narcotic effects of the drug.
before 1920 marijuana was extensively grown by the USA and Mexico for the production of fibre.which made a durable material, cheap and it does not scorch, that was used for all the jeans, ropes, sails for the sailing ships and millions of jute bags that were used by millions of farmers, representing a multimillion dollars business.
after 1920 with the coming of synthetic materials, which were products of the petrolium business ,which were owned by the families or associates of most of the presidents,
this competitive comodity could not be allowed to continue to exist,
and the war on Mariujana was on.
the drug factor although it has been proven beyond doubt by countless tests that it was a relative harmless substance compared to sigarettes, alcohol and others, was blatently ignored and relentlessly the war continued to this day.
although it does worry the church, since people tended to stay up all night and question religious and philosohical beliefs.some times coming to uncomplementary conclusions of what was socially accepted.
alcohol puts people to sleep and they dont question the given standards.
MARIJUANA FIBRE
today Mariujana fibre is making a come back in Europe and Africa and produce designer pantalons and shirts for very high prices because the quality is superior than linnen.
these fibre plants do not produce drugs to speak of and are worthless for the drug market .it is the fibre that is the value.
and organically speaking it is an exelent plant to recuporate tired soils ,after cattle and corn field have practically destroyed the land, because the plant is deep rooted grows on most altitudes, and breaks open or loosens compacted soils as well as secreting nitrogen.
.the stalks can also be converted in to building material such as blocks
P.S the war against Marijuana ,has traditionally been used in Europe,Africa ,USA and Mexico,as an excuse for the Governments to invade peoples privacy, place soldiers and police strategically throughout the countries for control and observation, and to employ more security forces.
American Soldiers are in Mexico today suposedly for Marijuana but the real reasons are more sinister
It also creates the right climate for coruption and abuse of power(which was the norm rather than the exception in South Africa ,during the days of Aparheid ,when it was simple to place a bag of marijuana in some bodies house, who was unpopular with the authorities, in order to arrest or shoot them.)
Note:
i grew up in a drug culture and there was lots of weed around many of my friends still smoke and i am now 62.
for health reasons i dont smoke much any more .
in the early days these transitional drugs were necesary, for great changes in the general mentality,
today in many places, this mentality is here , and in reality the drugs have become obselete .
we wasted a lot of time messing around when we should have been thinking of our future, but at the time the cultural revolution was more important ,but not any more
we have reached what could be reached ,many druggies from the sixties are in leading positions today ,and a lot of changes are in place,(although some countries seem to be going backwards i think, but drugs are not the solution in this case)
my advice to anybody young now is leave the drugs ,alcohol, sigarettes alone ,dont be misled by peer pressure and concentrate on securing a good future.
when you are established and stable ,then is the time to play around with whatever you please ,at least in a democratic concept,
but dont do it when you are young because then you cannot afford to loose the time, and many people of today will look down on you as being a looser

won’t happen because only pharmaceutical company’s can sell a relaxing drug legally for profit. That’s the way the wealthy like it.

Well first of all a joint has 10 times the amount of tar and toxins that a cigarette has..and it burns brain cells everytime you take a toke..but on the good side it helps people who suffer from MS or Aids or Cronic Pain..The other problem with marijuana is that if it’s not grown properly it can get what is called Powdery Mildew on it very easily and also mold so if you happen to smoke a joint with either of these problems on the drug then you can end up with a very bad lung infection that can kill you.But like you said if the government took control over the growth and distribution of pot the benefits to society would be great..there would be less crime..show me one guy who’s all stoned who’s gonna want to get off the couch to rob a place or do any crime.also a university did a study and found out that if the government legalized it ..with in a year the federal defecit would no longer be a problem..so i’m with you budd..lol they should legalize it and at the same time..we should be alowed to smoke or drink or sniff what ever the hell we want who are they to tell us what we can and can’t do that’s communism and no longer a free country..so the government can go straight to hell and not come back as far as i’m concerned

maybe their right in killing off a few people, after all we have too many.fu-k people im 4 more animals.free roaming ones at that.get rid of a few billion and our frogged up systems especially those who contribute the majority of crap into our air..

I agree with the legalization, in fact, of all drugs, but I pose the question: How is the government profiting off of weed being illegal?
December 9th, 2009 at 9:32 pm
My friend told me about this billboard in Washington D.C. that had a counter that went up every 2-3 seconds it said something to this affect, The number of vehicle accident deaths this year caused by drivers under the influence…of Marijuana. That was just from driving! there are not near as many studies done on lung cancer and driving statistics on marijuana because it’s illegal, but the tar content is far greater than that of cigarettes and it’s just as dangerous to drive. Do you not think that cigarettes would be illegal, if they had been from the start? especially with all the cancer problems? Of course they would but instead of another Prohibition problem the just tax the hell out of them! Why start the same problem with pot?
December 9th, 2009 at 10:31 pm
oh man,
first off that dude up there that said MJ kills brain cells is obviously on crack because it is scientifically proven to NOT kill brain cells. the worst negative affect that it can give you is smoke irritation…
i agree with the 60 year old dude, and the dude with all the statistics. but the number one statistic and the most obvios truth is that PROHIBITION DOES NOT WORK!! as proven in the 20’s
i do not smoke MJ, but i am a strong supporter of it…and like it or not its gonna happen…take a look dozens of states are decriminalizing… and if it was legalized it wouldnt be a complete free for all im pretty sure rules and laws will be in place limiting quantity, distribution, age, legal limit, and so on.

Marijuana was only made illegal in the first place as a legal way to harass Mexican immigrants living in Texas. Then, it was used against Black Jazz musicians and fans. This is due to the fact that most white Americans didn’t really know what it was at the time (early 1900’s). Then, in 1937, it was made illegal nationwide not long after other once easily obtainable drugs such as heroin and cocaine were found to have hazardous health effects. They made pot illegal before doing any hardcore research into it’s safety and all these years later, not a single study proves any health effects worse than those of alcohol or tobacco. I totally agree with you on this one. It just doesn’t make any sense. I’m going to spark up a fatty, myself, after work, how bout you???

the problem with pot goes all the way back to the old days when cotton factories started opening up and everyone found out that hemp could be used to do everything cotton does and more, for a lot less money. The rich who were running the cotton industry were all also running the country and outlawed hemp and anything that became of it. To this day it is still illegal and prob never will change because of selfish bussiness men who run the country.

In California as a qualified patient you are entitled to legally grow, consume and transport marijuana as your medicine. Marijuana has been reported to be an effective and preferred treatment for many California patients. Check out this website to see if you pre-qualify http://www.accsocal.com.
